Monday, July 24

The Spaceheaters at Cary St. Café

The Spaceheaters, a psychedelic jam band, has been firing up the streets of Richmond since 1997 but the band's popularity really began to flare in 2005, booking more shows in one year than in all of the previous ones combined. With noticeable influences drawn from country, blues, metal, rock and techno, this band is guaranteed to fire up a fun time. Must be 21 or older. 9 p.m. Free.

Tuesday, July 25

Therochelle at Bogart's

Therochelle, a soulful voice that emulates the powerful vocals of female artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Mary J. Blige and Pat Benatar, actually admits that male musicians have had a greater influence on her sultry style. Backed by a supportive and talented band, this R&B artist is sure to have you craving more of her compassionate sound. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. Band goes on at 9 p.m. $3.

Wednesday, July 26

Rick Springfield at FasMart Pavilion

While he may have had a hard time holding on to a career as a Hollywood heartthrob, Rick Springfield's role as a rock 'n' roll front man has been anything but brief. Throughout the '80s, teenage girls everywhere wished they could be Rick's girl and even now, two decades later, his biggest Billboard hit "Jessie's Girl" is a staple song at proms and parties. The Day After Yesterday Tour, promoting a an album by the same name, will meet an audience of wide-ranging ages at Innsbrook After Hours. 8 p.m. $10.

Thursday, July 27

Hal Ketchum at Cary St. Café

While many people (or, non-country music fans) may be unfamiliar with the who's and what's of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, most Americans can at least identify it as some sort of symbol of country music, and fans of the genre know it to be an authoritative figure in determining C&W legends. An Opry member since 1994, and a celebrated country artist for even longer, Hal Ketchum will show Richmonders a grand ole time. 8:30 p.m. $40 in advance, $45 at the door.

Friday, July 28

Nuttin' But Stringz at Dogwood Dell

Brothers Damien and Tourie Escobar, violin players emerging from the prestigious Juliard and Bloomingdale schools of music, have not come to our hometown to join the Richmond Concert Band that frequents Dogwood Dell, but to help bridge the growing gap between pop music and the classical genre that has become passé to today's teens. The duo uses an avant-garde approach to rekindling symphonic sounds. Their violin strings string together tunes from classical to jazz to hip-hop. 8 p.m. Free.

Saturday, July 29

American Idols Live at the Richmond Coliseum

The anxiety-ridden race to the phone associated with the hit show "American Idol" is replaced by a more relaxing, yet equally entertaining, feeling of euphoria when the top 10 finalists from the fifth season reunite for a live performance. Translation: Elliott Yamin followers have another chance to cheer on their hometown hero as he sings alongside other rising stars. 7 p.m. SOLD OUT.

Sunday, July 30

Pan Masters Caribbean at the Hanover Arts and Activities Center

The Pan Masters Steel Orchestra captures Caribbean culture in their perfected steel pan beats. The orchestra's repertoire, consisting of traditional island calypso, reggae and soca, originated in Tobago and Trinidad. Using a wide range of instruments to create their own interpretations of Bach, The Beatles and many other artists allows this ensemble to provide eager ears with a unique Caribbean cadence. 7 p.m. $5.
