It was looking like a slow restaurant news bi-week, but thanks to Richmond's fabulous bloggers there is actually something to report.

Arianna's (700 N. Sheppard St., (804) 353-6002), the popular Devil's Triangle Italian place from the people behind every other pizza joint you love in Richmond, is expanding into the former Tattoo 702 space.

Construction started a few months ago and they hope to have the addition completed by September. Once done, Arianna's seating capacity will double (it only has nine tables now). The addition will include a bar area where residents can wait for their takeout order and could possibly expand dining and delivery hours.

The West of the Boulevard neighborhood blog also reports that Carytown's Mezzanine (3433 W. Cary St.) should be open in a few weeks, though no confirmation was available by press time.

And the West End got a new bakery / café a few months ago. Hot Breads (3409 Old Parham Road, (804) 332-5751) is a franchise totally new to Richmond. Cakes, cookies, breads and pastries are all made fresh and available seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

But the real beauty behind this place is the "café" part.

Hot Breads specializes in South Indian cuisine. Masala Dosa, Pav Bhaji, Samosa Chaat and Chicken Tikka Dosa are a few of their specialties, all for less than $5. The menu also includes pizzas, paninis and wraps, many of which also have an Indian theme, like chicken curry pizza and the chicken tikka wrap.
