The Snagajob Publicity Bonanza

Print media propel Snagajob -- and ensure their own demise

Richmond BizSense, an independent Web site/blog tracking Richmond-area business, has a few choice observations about the recent spate of publicity for Snagajob.com, the online hourly job-finding service, since its founder Shawn Boyer won the National Small Business Person of the Year Award. (In case you missed Richmond.com's interview of Boyer, check it out here.)

According to a quick Lexis Nexis news search, BizSense found, Boyer has been quoted more than 50 times in the last two years in various newspapers around the country -- and that count is probably on the low side.

"Let's pause to note the irony: Snagajob and its posse of hip .coms have slaughtered the cash cow formerly known as newspaper help wanted ads. Yet, the company has relied on the mainstream media to promote the brand. The company needs jobs seekers to use the site, after all."

What did Vladimir Lenin say about capitalists? Give them enough rope and they'll hang themselves?

By the way, the BizSense count doesn't include all the free cable television exposure that Snagajob has been racking up, now that Boyer is an officially certified expert. To see a recent Fox News interview, click here.
