Six investors from Texas have acquired Virginia Waste Services Inc. and Shoosmith Bros. Inc., Chester-based businesses that provide waste hauling services and operate the Shoosmith landfill.

VWS Holdco Inc., the company formed to buy the privately held companies, will operate the two enterprises, which list the same business address, under the same names, reports Wesley P. Hester with the Times-Dispatch.

Fred Nichols, the new president, said that he and other members of the new management team come to Chesterfield County with years of experience in the waste-management industry. But, he added, "We don't plan on making any changes. This is a nice company and it’s been run very well."

The landfill, which opened in 1975, is expected to last 30 to 40 more years. The waste-hauling business collects roughly 3,000 tons of waste per day.
