Columbia Gas of Virginia will lower its natural gas rates 12 percent for September, October and November. Typical residential customers using 2,600 cubic feet of natural gas will see their bills decrease from about $61.37 to $53.98 per month.
The reduction reverses a recent trend toward higher rates this summer, reports John Reid Blackwell with the Times-Dispatch. "The good news is it is going back in the right direction," said Bob Innes, a spokesman for Columbia Gas. As a regulated utility, the company passes along the rising and falling cost of natural gas directly to the consumer.
Columbia Gas serves about 240,000 customers in Virginia.
