Stewart Gallery is opening “In Celebration of the Female Figure” Friday night, with works by Christus Murphy, Cynthia Erdahl, Carson Price, Barbara Muth and Kris Taylor. “From the beginning of time, artists have believed that painting the figure is both necessary and profound,” said gallery director Theresa Stewart Hupp, who added, “The unadorned female figure can tell a story that is both sacred and sensual.”
“There may be 15 pictures of me before I was 8 years old. This was back in the days when the baby of the family was not highly photographed,” Amy Grant said, laughing. “But one picture … I guess I was 7, and I was in a big chair, and I was reading the lyrics to hymns. I had a songbook open.”
