With Christmas only a few days away, you're certainly done with all your shopping, right? What's that? No?
Are you crazy? Based on the lack of parking spaces at the mall and along the streets, then you're definitely not crazy. You're just part of what Americans are best at doing: waiting until the last minute to get Christmas gifts.
But what do you buy someone at the very last minute? Before tackling that issue, what should you NOT buy someone this weekend. Here's a start: gift certificates to a fast food restaurant (unless your grandmother eats breakfast there every day), fruit cake (for that matter, avoid food that you only see during the last month of the year), a VCR (are these still made?), pencils, kittens (at this point, avoid animals altogether) and anything related to work.
When you're at a store this weekend standing in the mile-long checkout line, think about what you're doing. Ask yourself: Is this what they really want. If you doubt yourself for a second, you've probably done something terribly wrong. Avoid being that person this year.
So, what should you do? Before it's too late, check out Richmond.com's gift guides. These will be sure to generate some ideas.
w Toy Guide: From Tickle-Me-Ernie to a singing Hannah Montana doll to a giant Rubik's Cube, there's something for every age. If the store is all out, don't panic. There's not a child out there that doesn't understand the concept of a gift card.
w Gifts for Guys: Does your man like coffee? Or how about a new wallet? We've got you covered with some original ideas. If you'd rather be plain and ordinary, take a risk and buy him the tie he'll wear once. He'll remember next year.
w Gifts for Gals: From wine to a bath kit to watches, we have a variety of ideas in every price range. Here's a clue guys – pay attention to the perfume she's wearing. That'll score you some points. Or how about all those times you catch her watching the same infomercial on TV. It's a hint. There are tons of stores out there that sell "As Seen On TV" items, so you don't have to wait for shipping.
w Gifts for Couples: What couple doesn't like to eat out? You can't go wrong with a gift card from a local eatery. (Check out our "Bang for your Buck" story for more details.) We've got you covered for nearly every type of couple out there if a gift card isn't original enough.
