There are a few essential ingredients in every Super Bowl party. A working television, adequate seating and a spread of munchies are obvious examples, but the question is: are you looking to throw a memorable party or simply offer some friends a place to watch the game?

If a memorable party is your goal then a few extra touches is all it takes to throw a fabulous Super Bowl XLI party. It's all in the details. And by details, I mean food.

Let's be frank. Ladies, I'm talking to you. When left to the guys, Super Bowl party planning involves a quick stop by the 7-Eleven for six cases of beer and one bag of Ruffles. It may be sexist, but the guys don't care if the house is clean, the food is served directly out of the container it was purchased in or if their college roommate with the bad back is splayed awkwardly on a beanbag. They just want a clear shot of the television.

Party planning is a little more complicated for women. It doesn't matter if we're hosting a Super Bowl party or a wedding reception: the house will be clean, a menu will be planned and, by god, there will be themed beverages. And let's be honest, deep down guys, you appreciate it.

So for this Super Bowl party menu, in addition to staples like crackers and nonperishable cheese, Seven Hills Market has come up with a fabulous suggestion: shrimp and grits. This delicious, savory snack is a surprising find in a Super Bowl spread and the inventiveness will surely impress your guests. Shrimp and grits is a creative twist on the mashed-potatoes-in-a-martini-glass dish that's taken the wedding circuit by storm. It can easily be dressed up by serving it in the martini glass or serve as a casual dish on a plate.

For years, Seven Hills Market has been serving shrimp and grits as part of its catering menu, which has been so successful that they recently discontinued their regular carryout menu. In addition, this popular Reedy Creek / Woodland Heights market has expanded its market selection to include more wine, beer, cheese, crackers and other munchies, making it a great place to pick up all your Super Bowl treats. So be sure to check out the new selection and Seven Hills' catering and boxed lunch services. In the meantime, don't forget to treat your Super Bowl party guests to shrimp and grits.

Shrimp and Grits

INGREDIENTS:

1/2 pound Andouille sausage
3/4 pound peeled raw shrimp
1 tbsp butter
1 tsp vegetable oil
1 tsp chopped garlic
1/3 cup each: bell pepper, onion, celery, chopped finely
salt, pepper (to taste)
Cajun spice (commercial brand OK)
1 cup tomato juice or veggie juice
3 tbsp heavy cream
About 4 cups cooked grits, seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic and Cajun seasoning

DIRECTIONS:

Cook coins of Andouille sausage in butter and oil until crispy on one side. Flip and add garlic and trinity (celery, peppers, and onions) and sauté until soft. Do not brown garlic. Season with salt, pepper, and Cajun spice. Add shrimp and sauté until about halfway done. Add tomato/veggie juice reduce briefly, add a little heavy cream and reduce until sauce consistency. Taste sauce for seasoning. Adjust as needed.

Meanwhile plate heated grits, cover with contents of pan. Serve with hot sauce on side.

Serves six to eight people.
