In addition to our regular features highlighting events in Richmond, such as Sound Off (listing area music events), our full calendar and the Weekend Pick, we are bringing you a new column that will help you plan out your week. So welcome to the second edition of Richmond This Week.

We know there are many more things going on around town, but we thought these might pique your interest. These won't be long – you're busy. We get that. You don't have time to read more than a sentence or two. Well, here you go. A week's worth of events in two lines or less.

Monday, March 3

w The Flippo Gallery at Randolph-Macon College will exhibit the work of 27 artists whose work utilizes themes and imagery surrounding animals and nature from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, click here.

Tuesday, March 4

w If you want to have fun and learn how to belly dance, the city is holding two classes starting at 6:30 pm. for intermediates and 7:30 p.m. for beginners. The classes run for six weeks; cost $35 for city residents and $55 for non-city residents; and will be located at the Humphrey Calder Community Center at 414 N. Thompson St.

w The Mars Bar in Shockoe Bottom will hold Tuesday Night Fever: The Best of '70s Disco and Funk starting at 10 p.m. It's free.

Wednesday, March 5

w The office of the chaplaincy at the University of Richmond will host an evening with best-selling author Anne Lamott, who wrote "Bird by Bird," "Operating Instructions" and "Plan B." The event is free and starts at 7 p.m.

w The Museum of Fine Arts will unveil a new exhibition of 40 French and American paintings representing some of the finest examples of late 19th and early 20th-century landscapes. The exhibition will be on display from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Sunday; costs $8; and for more information, click here.

Thursday, March 6

w Play speed bingo for free with the chance to win awesome prizes at Sticky Rice. Blingo, as they call it, starts at 10 p.m. at the 2232 W. Main St. restaurant.

w Karaoke starts at 9 p.m. at Sine Irish Pub and Restaurant. For more information, click here

Friday, March 7

w First Friday Artwalk occurs the first Friday of every month when the downtown Broad Street art galleries open their doors from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. to show off their new art. Galleries include: 1708 Gallery, art6 Gallery, Curated Culture's Cornerstone Gallery, Forinstance Gallery, Gallery 5, Ghostprint Gallery, Ingalls Gallery, Jennifer Young Studio & Gallery, Metro Space Gallery, Propaganda Gallery & Studio, Quirk Gallery Studio and Gallery 6 Transmission Visual Art Studio.

w The movies "The Bank Job" and "10,000 B.C." come out. Check out our movies' section to find out where in Richmond.

Saturday, March 8

w Journey to exotic locations and climb the highest peaks from safe inside Monacan High School during the 31st annual Banff Film Festival, which starts at 6:30 p.m. For more information on the free event, contact Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation at (804) 748-1623 or parksrec@chesterfield.gov.

w The Virginia Spring Show, featuring artisans, crafters, specialty food shops and boutiques, comes to the Showplace on Mechanicsville Turkpike. For more information on the event, which costs $7 for adults, visit their site.

Sunday, March 9

w Want to see the newest cars, trucks and other motor vehicles? Then check out the 2008 Virginia Motor Trend International Auto Show at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. For more information, click here

w Think you know it all? Prove it at Sticky Rice's Piko42 trivia night, which starts at 10 p.m.
