The parking meters were taken down to encourage people to come to Downtown. What is the plan with these meters now going up again?

Win Clark

Richmond

To encourage travel to our exciting Downtown area, Richmond has reduced its meters by almost half – from 2,000 to 1,050.  We do not plan to add any meters. The remaining meters located in Downtown and around the VCU campus are intended to encourage short-term parking. Individuals who need all-day parking should consider using a parking deck or similar monthly arrangement.

I've heard that the Mayor is trying to get the State to sell us the Old City Hall building. How is that going?

Joe Robisch

3rd District

The City could save nearly $1 million each year by relocating our city department personnel into city-owned buildings, rather than continuing to pay rent for outside office space. As we are in desperate need of our own Downtown office space, I had asked the Governor to sell the Old City Hall back to us, because it's not being used by the state but is instead being leased. Regrettably, the Governor declined our request.

I've seen your new Web site at RichmondsMayor.com and I wondered why do you need this?

Mary Steele

Fan District

It's important that the good news occurring in our city reaches our citizens. More and more people receive their information and news via the Internet and mobile technologies, and Richmond is no exception.

Mainstream media may focus on conflict or trivial issues and leave out important facts that would provide "balance" to their report. This new Web site is a direct approach to bypass these filtering limitations and take the message directly to those who want and deserve it most -- you.

When will the new Hilton Hotel open in Downtown Richmond?

Thomas Davis

Southside

The 250-room Hilton Garden Inn, formerly the Miller & Rhoads department store at 5th and Broad in Downtown, is set to open this Fall. The $100 million project also features 133 adjoining condominiums as well as retail and commercial space.

This project had stalled until I got it back on track in late 2005 by bringing in New Orleans-based HRI Properties Inc. and Prudential Securities as joint owners with the original developer, Illinois-based ECI Investment Advisors.

I would like to address the unsafe conditions of the major highway that runs through richmond. If we are aware that the highway is unsafe, speaking of the safety corridor, instead of creating high fines for citizens to pay, why not redesign the highway to be safe. The area in which drivers are entering onto 95 south and 64 east starts, is an extreme safety hazard. You have motorist attempting to get onto 95, while other motorist are attempting to get onto 64, and others who are continuing on. There needs to be something done to reduce the congestion at that particular exit and entrance way. It is a major cause of accidents. The city has money to rebuild and build the city up, but no concerns for the safety of the motorist traveling through and around these areas. Another subject is the schools. The city does not seem to care about the city children who want to learn, nothing is being done for them. Building a new alternative school for problem children, what about the children who want to achieve, they are left behind in old, congested schools. While the problem children go on to brand new schools. Let the children who want to achieve know you care!...No child left behing..what about the good kids left behind in these old, congested schools. Why doesnt VA use some of the lottery money for schools in the capitol of Va...use some of the funds to build up our schools...instead of leaving old abandond buildings around to eventually spend millions of dollars to fix them in the future. Does this city care anything about the people who live in it!!

Why is there 4-5 Restaurants/Clubs in a 5 mile radius in the 8th district off of Broadrock and Walmsley and everytime you turn around someone is fighting or getting in an accident and the cops are always there. How are they able to open up so many business so quickly and the people that live here have a hard time trying too get a business. I feel thet it is so wrong for the immigrants to get more assistance then the people of Virginia who are elderly, poor, and sick.

People who live in the vecinity of the river and the canal walk pay a special overlay tax which in my case amounts to almost $650.00 per year. It seems to me that since we pay these taxes, that the City could do a better job of keeping these areas trash free. The area at the Western end of Brown's Island where people swim and swing on a rope tied to the train trestle was covered with trash including beer and liquor bottles. What a welcoming sight for visitors during the Xrerra games. I have taken pictures of this trash buildup and sent them to the RTD with no response. This City has a very valuable asset in the James River and it is too bad that no one thinks enough of it to keep it clean and looking nice.

What is a cut-off time for loud music being played in the neighborhood? If neighbors live next door to you how much fighting, drinking, and spinning wheels do you have to put up with in order to release them from there home. Cops have been out here too many times and people are getting scared and weary.

Why is it that over on Ernest Rd. and Cronin Dr. neighbors can let there dogs run loose during there business and don't have to clean it up? Why isn't there a sign and a fine for this. It's unfair when someone else has to clean up mess out of there own yard from another dog when that person doesn't even have animals.

Hello, I am very frustrated about the Social Services long term care. My husband is currently at the nursing home with Brain Injury, Diabetics. His evaluation was supposed to be done in January 2008.I sent in all the necessary documentations for the evaluation on Jan 19. Since then I've called month after month to get some a respone on his evaluation. His case worker at that time had been fired prior to me calling month to month. I never rec'd any information on his case. Remind you that it is now April. I called and called. One worker in that department (LTC) volunteered to help me. As I stated earlier all needed documentations were already sent to them. Still no word. They had misplaced most of my documentations that were sent to them. The worker that was helping me said that I needed more documentations. I told her that I strongly diagreed because in January all documentations were sent even with a letter stating which documents that I would liked mailed back to me upon viewing. Then I asked her a question as I again faxed her more documentations that I feel was not my neglenance but the case workers. My question was as the evaluation takes place is my shelter, dependent , food, clothing costs taken apon the evaluation. She then send me a letter stating that my husband was no longer eligible for medicare. Remind you that the only thing that changed was my rent.
I called her to have this situation explain to me. She was very rude. So I again faxed her a letter stating the question that I asked so that she could have some clarity. Now it is May 2008. Again I've called and called. No response. I called again around May 19th her voicemail nows states that she no longer works for Social Services. What do I do? No letter again has been sent to me to asay what's the process or nothing. The same letter that she sent me stating that my husband no longer is eligible was also sent to the nursing home. It is really stressing me out and I truly need some help, Communication agmost the case worker is very poor. At the nursing home they need also to know what the status of his medicare is. I can't tell them anything because no one has told me any thing. He is currently in & out of the hospital with illness. I have to work don't know what's next. But I need some help seriously as a citizen of the US I feel that I have no been helped. It is now June still no response. Wilder Please Help me!!!!

Why are the roads in Richmond in such a poor state? There never seems to be any repairs of current roads. Isn't there money in the budget allocated for such repairs. Why are officials attempting to raise toll fees when road repairs are completely absent?

Now, if I were to actually buy a condo downtown, it would not be one attached to a Hilton Garden Inn... That's a tacky. At least make it a real Hilton.
