A change in wind direction is blowing smoke from the North Carolina wildfires into the metro Richmond area again today.
This situation will most likely stay with the area for the rest of the day, according to the National Weather Service, but should clear by tomorrow evening with the passing of a front through the area.
The smoky smell and hazy conditions also covered Richmond last Friday after a June 1 lightning strike in Hyde County, N.C., sparked a 29,000-acre wildfire near the Pamlico Sound, according to a news release from Chesterfield County.
About 16,000 of the 29,000 acres burned week, resulting in the transmission of smoke over a broad region, including portions of Virginia.
