Meg Cross Menzies, whose death about a mile from her Hanover County home Monday during her daily run has inspired emotional tributes around the world, was eulogized Friday as a beacon of light in a church gym that doubles as a place of worship.

High above a flower-draped casket and some 1,200 mourners, clusters of whom were wearing brightly colored running shoes, an oval running track somehow seemed a fitting centerpiece of a life that celebrated her devoted police officer-husband, her three children, and a dedication to running that dated to high school.
