Leyla Namiranian, the missing Altria research director, told a friend before she disappeared last spring that she had been choked and threatened by a former boyfriend whom authorities now say is a primary suspect in her disappearance, according to court papers unsealed today.

Namiranian’s friend also told investigators, according to a police affidavit, that the boyfriend, Michael Anthony Edwards, would come to her home in Chesterfield County unannounced while they were going through a breakup.
