State employees would get an extra salary boost on top of their first raise in six years under amendments proposed to Virginia’s budget by the General Assembly money committees.

The House Appropriations and Senate Finance committees took different approaches to state employee compensation, but both proposed on Sunday to build on the 2 percent raise scheduled to take effect July 1.
