A House subcommittee endorsed a package of tort reform bills Wednesday after business interests backing the bills reached a compromise with the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association.

A coalition of business organizations called the Virginia Alliance for Tort Reform has pushed for the legislation, arguing it would help prevent frivolous lawsuits. The legislation would affect laws governing summary judgment and venue, among other civil litigation matters.
