Sen.-elect Timothy M. Kaine returned to Capitol Square in Richmond Thursday and said gubernatorial hopefuls Terry McAuliffe and Ken Cuccinelli should take a lesson from his campaign when it comes to political advertising.

“I hope everybody running, frankly Terry and Ken, would both look at my race and say, ‘You know what, the negative ads couldn’t break the tie, it was the positive ads that made the difference,’ ” Kaine said referring to his race against Republican George Allen, which was deadlocked until Kaine pulled ahead in September.
