Moving Tips

Ready to Move

You've bought that dream home, and now it's time to plan your move. We suggest the following steps to make your move as easy and hassle free as possible. First, consult the Moving Checklist and customize it to meet your family's needs. Second, look at hosting a yard sale or donating items to charity; whatever you do, make a point of parting with items you no longer need or use. Next, determine how you will move -- a complete do-it-yourself with family and friends, truck rental, or hiring a moving company.

Once you begin packing, keep in mind that the key to an efficient move into your next home is proper labeling of all boxes. If the box says "master bath," you don't want to open it and find the food processor and toaster oven. Pack the least essential and seldom used items first; as move day moves closer on the calendar, make your way to the items used on a daily basis. On move day, ask friends or relatives to keep small children if the move is local. If you can't leave the kids behind, it's a good idea to have one adult whose primary responsibility for the day is to focus their attention on meeting the needs of the children. Make sure to arm this adult with a bag chock full of snacks, crayons, coloring books, toys, books, and favorite stuffed animals.

When you arrive at your destination, take a deep breath and remember that Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will the new house take on the look and feel of your home all in 24 hours. For a list of the products, professionals, and services that can help you settle in, visit Home Setup Express.
