While spring has officially arrived, for some it takes more than just the falling petals of the Bradford Pear trees or the overzealous green grass on Monument Avenue to know that the season has changed. Some people have to taste spring. Fresh strawberries, blackberries, green beans and countless other fruits and vegetables announce with their presence, that spring is actually here.

You don't have to look very far to find such freshness. Whatever your address, there is sure to be a farmers market within driving or walking distance. There you can find the freshest produce, fruits, meats, cheeses and breads, but these markets go beyond the basics, and offer handmade desserts, drinks, crafts and clothing.

With the addition of two new markets this season, there are more chances than ever for community members, farmers and artists to and enjoy each other's company and products. Checkout any or all of the local markets that Richmond has to offer.

How do I go about renting a vendor spot for the farmers market at Forest Hill Park. I would love to serve smoothies and market my whole food supplements. Sincerely, Lorene Davidson

This may be better suited for the "Why Richmond Why" column, but: Why is the "Good" 17th Street Farmer's Market in the middle of the workday on a Thursday?

Have you ever compared the Thursday offering to the Saturday? Saturday is mostly a flea market with some very non local produce. Thursday has local produce including fresh vegetables, eggs, and meats. I understand that they may be aiming at the workday crowd at the lunch hour, but what do they expect your average office worker to do with a bag of fresh fruit, eggs, and chicken from lunch time to quiting time?
