When it comes to holidays that celebrate parents, dads tend to get the shaft.

It's not dads aren't worthy of praise and appreciation, it's just that, too often, it's difficult to figure out just how to celebrate him. Moms are easy; flowers, some extra help around the house, brunch and a nice pair of earrings are all it takes to make her happy.

Dad is harder to figure out, so year after year we shower him with ties, golf-themed desk accessories and random low-priced tools … most of which, he doesn't want.

So this Father's Day, save yourself the headache and get dad what he really wants -- a steak dinner followed by a big fat stogy. And lucky for you and dad, there are plenty of Richmond restaurants that offer both.

Cigar-friendly Restaurants:

Bottega Bistro: Although the Italian-influenced spot doesn't sell cigars, they're more than happy to let you bring your own and light up in the bar. And with a filet mignon on the menu, dad is sure to be pleased. 11400 W. Huguenot Road, (804) 379-9899

Buckhead's: This steak and seafood place with the killer wine list also offers ten brands of cigars. Shockoe Valley Pyramid, Churchill, Arturo Fuente Hemmingway classics and Macanudo are all featured on this stealer menu. The cigars can be enjoyed at the bar. Its cigar stock is available for $6 to $27 per cigar. 8510 Patterson Ave., (804) 750-2000

Cabo's Corner Bistro: This Fan spot that serves new American cuisine allows cigar smoking in their bar area. From time to time they may have some cigars on hand, but generally it is BYOC. Not only that, but its menu includes an Angus beef tenderloin, pork porterhouse chop and bison prime rib. 2053 W. Broad St., (804) 355-1144

Copper Grill Lobster and Steak House: Short Pump Town Center's steak and lobster place lets you smoke your cigar in the bar area and rotates a selection of six different brands, including Davidoff, Montecrisco. Its cigar stock is available for $7 to $18 per cigar. 11800 W. Broad St., (804) 364-9408

Edo's Squid: As you might expect, nothing is too complicated at this delicious Italian and seafood place. They recommend that you smoke at the bar, but if you want to smoke at your table, hey, that's fine too. They don't sell cigars though, so bring your own. Best of all, Edo's always has a steak special available. 411 N. Harrison St., (804) 864-5488

Havana '59: Havana is destination dining for Richmond cigar smokers. And with 32 different types on its menu and a cigar smoking policy that says smoke 'em if you got 'em, it's easy to see why. Havana's cigar menu includes Rocky Patel, Dunhill, Montecristo and H Upmann, to name a few. Sadly, Havana isn't open on Sundays (or Mondays) so it's a no-go for Father's Day. Still, with a cigar menu like that, plus a filet mignon and aged rib eye on the menu, you may just want to celebrate dad a day early. Its cigar stock is available for $9 to $22 per cigar. 16 N. 17th St., (804) 780-2822

Hondos: This classic West End steak, rib and chop restaurant sells cigars and, best of all, you can smoke them right at the table. They offer 15 brands including Kuba Kuba, Cohiba Minor, Cohiba Robusto Fino and Montecristo. Its cigar stock is available for $7 to $15 per cigar. 4024-C. Cox Road, (804) 968-4323

Little Venice Restaurant & Bar: This upscale, Italian favorite that all the critics are always raving about allows cigar smoking. You can smoke in the bar and at a smoking table. They also keep a nice stock of various brands, including Romeo & Julietta, Montecristo and Fuente Hemmingway Short Story. And with three different steaks on the menu, there are plenty of ways to celebrate dad. Its cigar stock is available for $6 to $16 per cigar. 10482 Ridgefield Parkway, (804) 741-6022

Morton's Steakhouse: Every dad in Rihcmodn knows that Morton's ain't called The Steakhouse for nothing. The Shockoe Slip steakhouse boasts one of the largest cigar menu in the city with a selection that includes Davidoff, Partagas, Cohiba and Macanudo all of which can be smoked at the bar or in a private dining room. Its cigar stock is available for $7.50 to $32.50 per cigar. 111 Virginia St., (804) 648-1662

Old Original Bookbinder's: Everyone's favorite Shockoe Slip upscale steak and seafood spot sells six varieties different types of Davidoff cigars that can be smoked at the bar anytime. Its cigar stock is available for $8.50 to $30 per cigar. 2306 E. Cary St., (804) 643-6900

Sam Miller's: Time is running out to enjoy a stogy at this Shockoe Slip fine dinning and oyster bar joint. On Father's Day, this once smoking at the bar restaurant will go nonsmoking until 9 p.m. (when diners can again smoke at the bar). Cigars, if brought along, are still accepted, just no until after 9 p.m. But with three different types of steak (including a bleu cheese stuffed filet mignon) dad will be plenty busy eating until 9. 210 E. Cary St., (804) 644-5465

The Tobacco Company: Never to be overlooked, Tobacco Company is the granddaddy of all cigar-friendly places. They offer 15 brands including Arturo Fuente, Butera, Dunhill, Cao, Cohiba, Avos and Macanudo and you can smoke in the club, lounge and the smoking section of the dining room. And with six different types of steaks available, dad is sure to be happy. Its cigar stock is available for $8 to $35 per cigar. 1201 E. Cary St., (804) 782-9555
