BLACKSBURG — Week after week, Corey Marshall politely declined sports writers’ requests for interviews this spring. Saturday, the former Dinwiddie High School football star broke his self-imposed media silence, explaining little about the reasons for his three-week absence from the Virginia Tech football team last fall, but expressing his gratitude to coach Frank Beamer for allowing him to rejoin the Hokies.
“The biggest thing with me was just getting my academics, getting everything in order, having everything in my backyard clean and spotless before I came out here and started talking,” Marshall said after Saturday’s annual spring game at Lane Stadium. “I just wanted to handle my business.”
