BLACKSBURG J.R. Collins almost got left behind.

Virginia Tech football coach Frank Beamer, tired of Collins’ incessant lateness to meetings and other team functions, told the then-junior defensive end any more transgressions would result in Collins not traveling with the Hokies to Orlando for last season’s Russell Athletic Bowl.
