As much as we love our "big little city," all its quirks and even the bad parking jobs, there comes a time when we need to get out of town … even if it's just for a day.

But with gas prices still high (I don't care what they say; $3.60-something does not constitute as 'low' to me), it's difficult to justify filling up the tank and sitting in traffic to go anywhere.

This Sunday, however, Richmonders over the age of 21 can hit the road without spending a dime on gas.

At 10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17 a luxury motor coach fully-equipped with reclining seats, air conditioning, restrooms and enough room for all your friends will be waiting to take you and your friends to Virginia Beach for the day.

It's all part of the Sunday Beach Blast, sponsored by gobuddie.com and Carytown's New York Deli. The bus takes off from New York Deli.(2920 W. Cary St.) and one and all are invited to slip into their bathing suits, pack a beach bags and stock the coolers for the bus ride.

Once you get to the beach, you'll have all day to play, with one stipulation -- make your way back at the bus by 6 p.m. … or prepare to remain beach bound. Need some help planning your day? Check out Richmond.com's "One Tank Trip: Virginia Beach" for restaurants, attractions, shopping and much more.

Tickets for Sundays' Beach Blast bus are $40 and can only be purchased online at gobuddie.com. Make sure to print the receipt to use as your ticket.

Looking to travel to "vabeach" another weekend? Gather up 20 of your best buds and reserve it for your day of choice. For more information and to reserve your seat for this Sunday's trip, head to gobuddie.com or call New York Deli at (804) 358-3354. Tickets are non-refundable unless Gobuddie LLC cancels for any reason.

To: Go Away Consistency,

Do you have anything positive or supportive to say about your Richmond besides the fact that you have a black friend and an Indian friend...yada yada? Big deal. Its 2008. Are you not familiar with our D candidate? Your entire comment was spent solely giving your opinion of my character and my education. When did I ever give you the idea that I didn't have an education? Because I dislike Richmond? How unbecoming of you. You should be smarter than that since you appear to be so well traveled. I mean, come on, you've been to the "south side" after all.
You're right about one thing... I go to crappy restaurants because, well, I'm temporarily living in Richmond. Bars? There are bars in Richmond? Do you mean a restaurant that has a bar? Have a nice day cafe? I'm curious what bars your referring to as the words Richmond and bars don't correlate in my mind.

Alas, rest easy, GAC. Up there in that big city called Manhattan, we consider City University of New York a place one goes to get an education and that's where I got me one of them there diplomas. We are ranked #1, #3, #7, and #9 in U.S. colleges as having the most diverse population. Perhaps your Asian friend went to school there?

Here is the deal…… MORE details. What will the $40 dollars include? Is it just the bus ride? Of course you're going to get negative feed back if that is all you get. Is it a party bus that supplies you with fun, jello shots, drinks food etc? People on this site are looking to discredit you, provide some persuasive reasoning for us to pay more than a tank of gas and I am all about it!!!

I am in Virginia Beach. I use to live in Richmond, which I couldn't stand for all the reasons already posted... but, there is no way I would spend my money to come to this classless, culturally lacking, crappy place, not to mention ride a bus to get here???

Who said anything about anyone drinking and driving? These comments really have a way of going on tangents.

The extra $$ probably goes for the convenience of not having to worry about finding a DD and not having to worry about them drinking (even if its just 1) and driving. I would pay $40 dollars for that- cheaper than a DUI, a whole lot better than taking someone else's life.

I've got room in my car for 4 more passangers. I'll gladly take 15 dollars from each person and throw in a cooler of cheap beer. Sounds like easy money to me. Meet me at NY Deli. PS I have to agree with everyone else, VA beach is about half or less than a tank of gas round trip for the average car, so someone is making bank on this deal.

Consistency -you're the type of person that will find everything and everything to complain about in any and every situation. I've lived in the west end, fan, near west end, south side and each has its great and not so great parts. I also have a very diverse group of friends-white, black, Indian, Asian. Your Perception is YOUR reality. It sounds like you're the one segregating yourself, only eating at crappy restaurants and hanging out in crappy bars with the same kind of people every day. Get an education, gain some class and maybe another city will have you.

isn't that kinda the draw? free beer? GREAT article.

I KNEW that someone would respond with "get outta here" yada, yada. That's the usual response when someone complains about Richmond. Rather than making a change for the better? Conform or leave, eh?

WILSON, do you live in Richmond? You really think Richmond isn't segregated? Have you been to Short Pump? Are you familiar with the school systems in Richmond? Furthermore, I can't count the number of times I have heard/seen someone taking digs at the South side b/c it's "across the bridge". Should I keep typing?

The article fails to mention that riders get beer during the ride. That's part of what the $40 covers.

If you dislike Richmond so much, how about MOVING? We don't need your kind here. You cramp up the place.

I'm all down for the party bus...whoo hoo!

"Without spending a dime on gas"? What is the $40 bus cost then for? We can drive ourselves down there for less, get there faster and not have to use a bus bathroom.

Segregation? What generation are you livin in?

"As much as we love our "big little city," all its quirks and even the bad parking jobs,.." How does that relate to taking a $40 bus ride to the beach? Major news flash!! Not everyone here loves (even likes) Richmond. Do you not read the comments? As a matter of fact, I would love to see an article about ANYTHING that didn't begin with... "Everyone should live in Richmond and love it! We have foodies, confederate flags, segragation, crappy restaurants, crappy bars, 1800 customs, statues, and magnolia trees. Nothing left to desire."

Eh, my husband and I can go to VA Beach on less than one tank of gas in our SUV. Why should we pay $80 to ride a bus?
