Dog treat maker Barkworthies is putting its money where the bark is — with animal rescue.
The Henrico County-based firm is running a campaign that donates $5 to the Richmond Animal League for every story and photo of a rescued pet submitted and posted to the Barkworthies and Richmond Animal League “Chews Rescue” Facebook page.
The company also is making an outright donation of $10,000 to RAL, company officials said.
“We just want to recognize and reward the work that is done at animal rescue shelters across the country,” said Bill Chilian, Barkworthies’ marketing vice president.
“There are just so many people who donate their time as well as money to help these animals.”
The campaign runs through April 30. A name will be drawn from the submissions, and that person will receive a year’s worth of Barkworthies treats for their pooch. The contest is open to people age 18 or older.
Avrum Elmakis and Lauren Elmakis founded what is now called Barkworthies in 2011. The company makes preservative-free and additive-free dog treats and sells directly to 1,800 to 2,000 stores and also to distributors. In all, the products are in about 8,000 to 10,000 stores in the U.S., Chilian said.
