Why you know him: The former chief executive officer of Henrico County-based Elephant Insurance Services became CEO in 2012 of Compare.com, a sister company of Elephant that offers comparison shopping for automobile insurance.
What’s new: After a “soft launch” of its business in 2013, Compare.com rolled out a major marketing and advertising campaign in 2014 to draw more customers, while expanding its office and doubling the number of employees to about 40 in western Henrico.
“It’s been a good 2014 for us,” Rose said.
In 2015, the company is planning to continue its expansion. Compare.com has 31 insurance carriers using its platform, including eight of the top 20, and the company expects to increase that number.
The company also plans to double its ad spending in 2015.
Rose said the company has about 10 job openings now, and it expects to add more employees in 2015, mostly with skills in information technology, marketing and account management.
The company does not disclose how many people use its website to comparison shop for insurance, but Rose said in 2014 it returned “millions” of rate comparisons for users.
Compare.com also is planning to expand into other price comparison services, including health and life insurance, renters and homeowners insurance, travel services, and television and cellphone service.
“Our goal is to be where you come to shop for intangible services,” Rose said.
