German-based Lidl plans to open Richmond-area grocery stores.

Lidl will open its first four Richmond-area grocery stores at 8 a.m. on July 27.

Opening that day are Lidl stores located at:

  • 11701 Iron Bridge Road in Chester;
  • 12151 W. Broad St. in the GreenGate development in the Short Pump area of western Henrico County;
  • 1311 Mall Drive near Chesterfield Towne Center in North Chesterfield, and;
  • 5110 S. Laburnum Ave. near Williamsburg Road in eastern Henrico County.

Each new store will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:40 a.m. prior to the grand openings.

The first 100 customers to arrive at each location will receive a wooden coin for a chance to win up to $100 in Lidl gift cards.

Shoppers will also be able to sample an array of Lidl’s products and get a complimentary Lidl reusable bag while supplies last.

Lidl, based in Germany with U.S. headquarters in Arlington County, opened its first U.S. stores — including stores in Hampton and Virginia Beach — on June 15.

The company also has a store under development at Staples Mill and Hermitage roads in northwest Henrico, but the chain didn’t announce an opening date for that location.

It also has stores planned for 4700 W. Broad St. near Staples Mill Road, and on Mechanicsville Turnpike just east of Adams Farm Road in Hanover County.
