Quaternary ammonium fuel additives; (U.S. Patent 10,308,888); Scott D. Schwab of Richmond; Afton Chemical Corp. of Richmond: The present disclosure provides fuel additives including a quaternary ammonium salt formed by reacting an alkyl carboxylate with a compound formed from a hydrocarbyl substituted acylating agent reacted with a select amine. Also provided herein are fuel compositions including the novel fuel additives and methods of combusting a fuel including the fuel additives herein. The unique quaternary ammonium salts herein are advantageous because they can be made through a simple alkylation process and provide improved detergency at low treat rates by making available a relatively less sterically hindered quaternary nitrogen for detergency activity in the fuel.

Kitchen appliance for preparing a beverage and method of operating same; (U.S Patent 10,307,014); William D. Starr and Patrick T. Mulvaney of Richmond; Adam Hanes of Glen Allen; Larry Olson of Montpelier; Hamilton Beach Brands Inc. of Henrico: A kitchen appliance includes a first reservoir for receiving a liquid to be used for preparing a beverage. A hot water generator (`HWG`) has an inlet end, an outlet end and a passageway extending therebetween. The inlet end of the HWG is connected to the first reservoir. Liquid from the first reservoir flows into the HWG through the inlet end. A selector valve is connected to the outlet end of the HWG. At least a portion of the selector valve is movable by a user between a first valve position and a second valve position.

Venturi effect-driven formulation delivery in e-vaping devices; (U.S. Patent 10,306,927); Ali Rostami and Raymond Lau of Richmond; Eric A. Hawes of Midlothian; Altria Client Services LLC of Henrico: Example embodiments relate to an e-vaping device including a mouth-end insert, a reservoir connectable to the mouth-end insert, the reservoir including a hollow portion along a longitudinal axis of the e-vaping device, a plurality of orifices distributed along an interior surface of the reservoir, and a power portion connectable to the reservoir. The e-vaping further includes a portion configured to direct an amount of pre-vapor formulation onto the heater.

Peroxides to limit biofilms and tobacco-specific nitrosamines; (U.S. Patent 10,306,915); Ujwala Warek of Chester; James Arthur Strickland of Richmond; Elisabeth Miller of Chesterfield; Dongmei Xu of Glen Allen and others; Altria Client Services LLC of Henrico: Methods of making reconstituted tobacco include contacting a mixture including tobacco pulp with one or more fluid streams including one or more peroxides (e.g., hydrogen peroxide), recovering one or more fluids from the tobacco pulp mixture, and reusing the recovered fluids in at least one subsequent tobacco pulp contacting step. In some cases, methods provided herein can recover one or more fluids including one or more peroxides, such that the at least one subsequent tobacco pulp contacting step includes contacting tobacco pulp with a fluid including one or more peroxides.
