Richmond-based private equity fund Blue Heron Capital has participated in a $23 million debt and equity financing round for a company that makes technology for the treatment of throat diseases and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

The company, CSA Medical, is based in Boston. It develops and manufactures proprietary cryotherapy technology that is being used by more than 100 hospitals and universities to treat diseases such as esophageal cancer and airway obstructions by flash-freezing and destroying unwanted tissue inside the body.

Blue Heron Capital did not disclose its investment. It invests in small-cap growth equity companies in the health care and tech-enabled business services industries.

Horizon Technology Finance also provided a $15 million venture loan facility along with $8 million in equity investment from existing CSA shareholders.
