The buzzer sounded on college basketball season at The Times-Dispatch on Wednesday night at our end-of-the-season celebration at Strawberry Street Café.
About 15 employees joined our College Basketball Bracket Challenge contest winners and their guests to enjoy dinner and drinks at the well-known local restaurant, which was also a sponsor of this year’s contest.
The RTD’s three contest winners took home a combined total of $1,000 in prizes, and one employee scored big with an RTD door prize full of branded goodies and an oversized RTD tote bag.
During the evening, we learned that our full-bracket contest winner, James Phelps, heard about our contest on Facebook and decided to give it a try. Taking a chance paid off – he won $500 and took top honors for his full-bracket picks.
Cathy Northrop won the 16-team bracket and Sheila Holmes scored first in the 4-team bracket. Both winners received $250. The opportunity to play the shorter rounds was appealing to Northrop. A University of Virginia graduate, she shared that her full bracket was busted from the start.
Deb Baker from the RTD revenue team won the employee-only door prize drawing and is now flush with great RTD gifts. You may see her sporting a large RTD tote bag, or taking notes on a leather padfolio that carries our logo as well.
Congratulations to our College Basketball Bracket Challenge contest winners and thank you to everyone who participated in the contest. Visit the contest section on Richmond.com for more chances to win big with the RTD.
