The 45th annual Richmond Times-Dispatch Regional Spelling Bee is central Virginia’s spelling competition for elementary and middle school students in grades four through eight from each of the region’s public school systems, the Catholic Diocese of Richmond, local private schools and home schools. The bee helps students improve their spelling, increase their vocabulary, learn concepts and develop correct English usage that will help them throughout their lives.

The winner of the bee receives a $1,500 scholarship and an all-expenses-paid trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in the Washington, D.C., area from The Times-Dispatch.

The national bee, sponsored by Scripps, is America’s largest and longest-running educational program.
