Travinia Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar at Willow Lawn is closed.

The restaurant, which opened in August 2014, closed at 8 p.m. Saturday, according to a sign on the door.

“It is with heavy hearts we announce the closing of the Travinia Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar in the Richmond location,” the sign said. “Today we would like to celebrate the past, smile with our friends, shed a few tears, but most of all be thankful that we had the honor of serving you.”

South Carolina-based Travinia Italian Kitchen Holdings Inc. and four of its operating subsidiaries filed a voluntary Chapter 7 liquidation in early March with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in South Carolina, court records show.

About 50 people worked at the Willow Lawn location at the time of the filing, court records show.

According to the Post and Courier, the company said in the filings that it would seek to sell its three Virginia locations — Richmond, Charlottesville and Leesburg. According to the Travinia website, the group operates one other location in Lexington, S.C.

The two other Virginia locations as well as the South Carolina restaurant were open for business on Monday.

When the Willow Lawn Travinia opened, it was the restaurant’s 12th location. The group began shuttering restaurants in 2012, beginning with its original Greenville, S.C., location. A Travinia in Newport News closed in June 2018 and its Asheville, N.C., location closed this year.

Travinia isn’t the only restaurant chain to exit the Richmond market this year. Pie Five Pizza, also at Willow Lawn, left the Richmond market in April with the closure of that location.

In Short Pump, Matchbox restaurant closed in June, Shula’s Steak House closed in May and Kona Grill closed in April; Grimaldi’s Pizzeria shuttered its sole Richmond store with the closure of its Chesterfield County location in February.

At least a dozen other Richmond restaurants also have closed this year, including Pasture, Swan Dive, Havana 59 in the West End, two Urban Farmhouse Market & Cafes, Moe’s Southwest Grill at the Village, Elephant Thai and Autentico’s Kitchen.
