Happy Memorial Day weekend, everybody. Check out these top five things to do on Memorial Day:

Throw a barbecue. Put some burgers on the grill, invite family and friends over and make it a party.

Honor soldiers who have died in service. Reach out to your relatives who have served. Visit a veteran. The Virginia War Memorial in Richmond will be hosting a program at 10 a.m. and the Carillon in Byrd Park will be ringing the bells at 4 p.m.

Go to a movie. Memorial Day is the start of the summer movie season. Big-name movies opening this weekend are the “Poltergeist” remake and George Clooney’s “Tomorrowland.” Or you can check out a few blockbusters already out like the new “Avengers” movie or the new “Mad Max.”

Have a Netflix marathon. Ssh, don’t tell anyone, but a Netflix marathon never hurt anyone. New Netflix shows worth checking out: “Bloodline” starring Sissy Spacek, Tina Fey’s comedy “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and the episodic reboot of “Daredevil.”

Go to the river. The James River is always a popular spot on Memorial Day. Belle Isle and Pony Pasture see the most action. Your challenge: find that unexplored spot and make it yours for the summer.
