— Chesterfield County authorities on Thursday said they had located the origin of a fire that caused significant damage to a flooring business.

Investigators determined the fire at the Better Floors store in the 11300 block of Polo Place, in the Shoppes at Bellgrade at Huguenot and Robious roads, started in the area of one of the vehicles parked inside the structure’s warehouse, Chesterfield Fire & EMS Lt. Jason Elmore said.

The exact cause of Wednesday night’s fire remained under investigation Thursday, Elmore said.

Fire damage was confined to several vehicles parked in the warehouse as well as some of the business’ inventory. The 10,000-square-foot, one-story structure had significant smoke damage in the warehouse and offices, as well as minor smoke damage to the showroom.

Elmore said one firefighter suffered a minor injury and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

About 50 fire and emergency workers from Chesterfield and the city of Richmond responded to the 9:12 p.m. fire, which was marked under control at about 10:30 p.m.

The fire was discovered by a shopper who saw smoke and heard an alarm, Chesterfield Battalion Chief Matt Coffin said.
