A 16-year-old Meadowbrook High School student has been charged after he was found with a loaded, stolen handgun in his backpack Thursday, Chesterfield County police said.
The male student, whose identity was not disclosed because he is a juvenile, was charged with possession of a firearm on school property and with stealing or receiving a stolen firearm.
On Thursday, Meadowbrook’s school resource officer received information that a student might be in possession of a handgun on campus. The student was located and a handgun was found in his backpack, a police spokeswoman said.
The gun was loaded, but no one was threatened with the weapon or injured, police said.
Police said that the gun had been reported stolen in another jurisdiction. Details of the type and caliber of weapon, and where it had been stolen, were not immediately available.
The student was taken to juvenile detention and charged, police said.
