Blanche Bottoms, 100, of Powhatan, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 31, 2017. She is survived by her son, Bill Bottoms (Mildred); daughter, Mildred Vasser (Lewis “Buddy”); grandsons, Lewis Vasser Jr. (Nancy), Lee Vasser; granddaughter, Katelyn Bottoms; and great-granddaughter, Paige Vasser. Blanche was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Ellis Bottoms; parents, James and Ethel Jennings; son, Philip Bottoms; sister, Shirley Cooper; and brothers, James, Paul, and Linwood Jennings. The family received friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 2 at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service, 6500 Iron Bridge Road. Her funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 3 at Morrissett Funeral & Cremation Service. Interment followed in Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Winfree Memorial Baptist Church, 13617 Midlothian Turnpike, Midlothian, VA 23113.


Vera Graham Brauer, 97, of Powhatan, widow of P. Allen Brauer, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2017. She is survived by three children, John and Pat Brauer of Midlothian, Mary and Carl Orange of Mechanicsville, Liz and Jim Royall of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Archer Graham, Francis Graham both of Powhatan; three granddaughters and their husbands, Pam and Dave Kobza, Julie and Scott Garner, Heather and Paul McIntyre and six great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Hermitage and At Home Care Hospice for their care and attention. The family received friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 5 at Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Highway, Powhatan and where a funeral service followed at 11 a.m. Interment Emmanuel Episcopal Church Cemetery, Powhatan. Nora Kittrell Hargrove, born April 5, 1937, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, August 4, 2017. Nora is survived by her loving husband, Jimmy; her children, Lynn Holthausen, James Squares and Mary Squares; her stepchildren, Jimmy Hargrove and Alethea Roach; her grandchildren, Todd, Jessica, Trey, Morgan, Roderick, Kaitlin, Kenny and Kobe. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Mary, her daughter, Laura, and her grandsons, Dion and David. Nora lived in Powhatan and was an active member of Emmaus Christian Church, where she made several close friends. On Thursday, August 10 at 2 p.m., a memorial service will be held in her honor at Emmaus Christian Church; 1801 Huguenot Trail, Powhatan, VA 23139. “Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved.” Psalm 62:1-2.


Mildred Anna Wolf Nichols, 96, of Powhatan, formerly of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, July 31, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 23, 1921, in Spencer Co., Indiana to Ludwig Von Wolf and Kunniegunda Leistner Wolf. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Carl Edward Nichols. She was also preceded in death by her three brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her devoted son, Ronald, and his wife, Sharon; her beloved grandson, Jeffrey, and his wife, Cindi, and her very special great-grandchildren, Bethany and Travis, all of Powhatan. She is also survived by her youngest sister, Etheleen Wolf Culver of Louisville and several nephews. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, 2315 N. Parham Road, Henrico, where the funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 5. Visitation with family and friends at the church took place one hour prior to the funeral service. The Rev. Michael Pottschmidt officiated. Interment followed at Dale Memorial Park.
