LYNCHBURG – Competing at Osborne Stadium in the picturesque Liberty University athletic complex, standout athletes from Powhatan Track and Field’s boys and girls teams placed in the Class 4 outdoor state competition held May 31 and June 1.

Anthony Greenhow led Powhatan with placements of third and fourth in the 100m dash and 200m dash, respectively. The sophomore ran a third-place time of 11.13 seconds in the 100m dash - a narrow .05 seconds back of the winning time posted by Blacksburg senior Tiquest Terry (11.08). Greenhow then ran the 200m dash in a fourth-place time of 22.25 seconds.

Powhatan junior Arnell Jackson, in addition to running in the girls’ 4x100m relay, also competed in the girls’ long jump, in which she placed fourth (17’3.50”).

The 4x100m girls relay team of Jackson, Paris Brown, Nadia Howell and Shaniece Morris placed 8th in states on a 50.24.

Also competing in states for Powhatan were: the boys 4x100m relay team, listed as Greenhow, Norman Watson, Joshua Jordan and Antonio Reyes (43.88); the boys’ 4x800m relay team, listed as John Cavedo, Will Paxton, Gavin Timmons and Colton Vosburg (8:30.51); and Watson in the boys’ long jump with a best distance of 20 feet-even in the state meet.
