A North Carolina man in his stopped car on Interstate 95 in Prince George County was killed early Tuesday morning when he was struck from behind by a tractor-trailer.

The Virginia State Police said Christ M. Vagotis, 75, of the 800 block of Lowdale Drive in Reidsville, N.C., died in the 1:33 a.m. accident on southbound I-95 at mile marker 36.5.

The trooper's preliminary investigation shows that a 2019 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by Vagotis, was stationary in the right lane when a 1996 Peterbilt tractor-trailer traveling south on I-95 in the right lane struck Vagotis in the rear. He died at the scene. The male driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

State police said the crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team.
