A crash during afternoon rush hour involving a school bus, empty of any students, and an SUV closed all lanes of Interstate 64 west and one lane east near the Mechanicsville Turnpike exit on Thursday.

Virginia State Police spokeswoman Sgt. Keeli Hill said the Richmond Public Schools bus was trying to avoid a hydroplaning SUV when the driver veered to the left, struck the jersey wall and then hit the Lexus SUV from behind. Hill said there was a "heavy downfall of rain" during the time of the collision.

The adult female bus driver and another woman passenger in the bus reported minor injuries. No children were on the bus, Hill said.

The driver and sole occupant of the SUV did not report any injuries immediately, Hill said.

All lanes have reopened.

The collision is still under investigation.
