A woman has been charged following an incident that shut down the Lee Bridge for hours Monday morning.

Alexis Cosimo, 33, of the 1100 block of Eggleston Street, has been charged with disorderly conduct, brandishing a firearm and discharging a firearm in a public place.

Police responded to the 600 block of South Belvidere Street, near the Virginia War Memorial, for a report of random gunfire and a suspicious vehicle parked at the north end of the Lee Bridge. Officers found Cosimo armed with a handgun, police said.

No shots were fired once police arrived on scene, police said, but Cosimo had fired a round before their arrival — though police couldn't say what she was shooting at or whether she was aiming at anything. A SWAT team responded and negotiated with the woman, who was later arrested.

There were no injuries.

The bridge reopened about 8 a.m., about six hours later, once the situation was resolved.
