Police lights

A woman was killed Friday when she lost control of the car she was driving on Interstate 295 in Hanover County and overturned in the median, state police said.

The victim’s name was being withheld pending notification of relatives.

Police said they responded at 12:33 p.m. to a crash with a confirmed fatality in the northbound lanes at mile marker 38, which is near the exit for Pole Green Road. A preliminary investigation shows that the victim was driving northbound in a four-door Mazda sedan when she lost control, ran off the road to the left and overturned.

The victim was the only occupant and was not wearing her seat belt, police said. She was partially ejected and died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
