ambulance lights

A 35-year-old Ashland woman died in a single-vehicle crash Friday when her car ran off Interstate 295 in Hanover County.

Tonya Tomlin Barnette died at the scene of the wreck, police said.

Barnette was driving a 2008 Mazda 3 north on I-295 when she lost control of the car, ran off the road and overturned in the median, according to police.

The Virginia State Police responded at 12:33 p.m. to the crash at mile marker 38.

Barnette was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected. She was the only person in the car.

A wet road is being considered as one of the possible factors of the crash, state police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
