A Colonial Heights man has been charged with murder of a McDonald’s employee who was taking a break outside the restaurant July 20 in the 5100 block of Nine Mile Road.

Deonte Maurice Jenkins Jr., 19, made a brief appearance in Henrico County Circuit Court this morning and will return to court next week when a trial date could be set. He was indicted earlier this month on the murder charge after initially being arrested for attempted robbery and conspiracy charges.

Jenkins faces three other felonies in connection with the shooting death of McDonald’s employee Michael Raymond Bailey Jr., 22, of Sandston and a Varina High School graduate.

Another man, Christopher Pitts, 22, of the 600 block of North Laburnum Avenue, is facing multiple felonies in the case and was arrested with Jenkins.

Bailey was working two jobs and died at VCU Medical Center shortly after the 11:15 p.m. shooting.
