While most of Richmond's public schools are named for people, many aren't.
For example, Huguenot High School is named for the Huguenots (French Protestants) who fled persecution in Europe -- some settled along the James River in the early 1700s.
Chimborazo Elementary is named for the east Richmond neighborhood, which in turn is named for a dormant volcano (pictured above) in Ecuador. Many other schools are named for the communities they serve, including Bellevue, Broad Rock, Fairfield Court, Oak Grove, Southampton, Swansboro, Westover Hills and Woodville.
What follows are the Richmond public schools named for individuals.
