MECHANICSVILLE – Hanover High School athletic director Josh Just, a constant presence on the school’s sports scene since it was founded, is departing to take a position as assistant principal at Caroline High School in Milford.
Just said the new position will allow him to grow as an educator.
“I like administration. I like the education side of it, and I like working directly with kids.” Just said. “I know the role of teacher, coach and athletic administrator. This gives me another aspect to learn.”
Just said the move is not an easy one to make.
“It’s hard to leave,” Just said. “Hanover is a great place. A great school, obviously a young school, but already developed a really good tradition. We have some outstanding people walking the halls, outstanding graduates and alumni now. So it’s been a good place for me. … I’ve had a great time working with the community and the kids and everyone involved.”
Athletic directors and coaches spend a lot of time working after hours, so the move might have a more personal benefit to Just.
“I might get a little more family time,” he said.
Just, who became Hanover’s second athletic director after the retirement of Bob Stratton two years ago, will be succeeded by Robert Bollander – another founding veteran of the Hawks’ sports scene.
“Bob is a great guy,” Just said. “Bob has been there since the school opened. He’s one of the original teachers and coaches. … He helped as an assistant AD with Bob Stratton for years. He did that for a long time at Hanover. He also helped me a great deal.”
