BERRY

BERRY, Charles Sanford, 72, of Hanover County, Virginia, went to be with his Lord on May 1, 2019. He is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Nancy Tanner Fowler Berry; five children, Raymond Berry (Annette), Janice Sadler (Roy), Stephen Fowler, Brenda Stanley (Bobby), Marjorie Fowler; brother, Lawrence “Pete” Berry (Debra); numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends. Charles retired from General Services Corp. after 25 years of service as a maintenance supervisor. He will be remembered by his family as a man who always had a smile on his face and was quick to laugh, ready to help on any project one of his children might have from building a porch to finishing a room. Even when Charles had challenges with walking, he still attended numerous weddings, high school and college graduations, and traveled to Parris Island to witness a grandson becoming a United States Marine. Charles’ favorite pastime was to watch NASCAR races on TV, and if you happen to visit him in the afternoon during race season you learned all about the drivers and possibly became a racing fan yourself. Charles was an avid country music fan, and cheesecake was his favorite dessert when homemade peach ice cream wasn’t available. The family received friends on Monday, May 6, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Home, Mechanicsville Chapel, 8041 Lee-Davis Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. 23111, where a funeral service was conducted on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at 2 p.m. Interment followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cool Spring Baptist Church Building Fund, 9283 Atlee Station Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. 23116.
