MECHANICSVILLE – Alexandra Lauren Andrews leads the 2019 Class of Hanover High School as valedictorian with a grade point average of 4.75. Salutatorian is John Dustin, whose GPA is 4.72.
Alexandra is the daughter of Dean and Gladys Andrews of Ashland.
She was the president and founder of the Psychology Club and served as treasurer of her class, secretary of the Spanish Club, captain of the Debate Club, JV captain of the field hockey team, and recycling coordinator of the Beta Club. She also was a member of the lacrosse team and National Honor Society.
During the morning at Hanover High, Alexandra was the announcer.
Alexandra volunteered at SOAR365 and Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.
She plans to attend the University of Virginia, where she will be applying to the McIntire Investment Institute.
In looking back at her years at HHS, Alexandra said, “To whom much is given, much is expected.”
John’s parents are Laura and Chip Dustin of Mechanicsville.
During his four years at Hanover High, he was a member of the varsity football team. He served as the Hawks’ captain his senior year. He played varsity soccer for three years.
He served as vice president of the Senior Class and was a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club and SODA Club. SODA represents Student Organization for Developing Attitude.
In his community, John has been a student leader for Hanover County Young Life and assistant teacher at Kitty’s Kids Child Care.
John will be attending Virginia Tech, where he will major in Building Construction.
As he leaves HHS, he said, “If I gave it my all, I would never regret or worry about the results.”
