Hanover Tomato Festival

MECHANICSVILLE -- What brings folks to the Hanover Tomato Festival every year? Maters, Hanover’s favorite fruit, of course, but also the great entertainment that can be found on the main stage as well.

The Hanover Tomato Festival runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 12, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, at Pole Green Park at 8996 Pole Green Park Lane in Mechanicsville.

Kicking off the event on Friday night, DJ Luke Gibson (Random Play Productions), then bridging the gap between hard rock and melodic grunge will be Apricity, from Mechanicsville. Enjoy hits of past and present and hard-hitting drums and blasting riffs, as Apricity breathes new life into rock music.

On Saturday, your local favorite, the Hanover Concert Band will take the stage at 9 a.m., followed by a variety of musical performances scheduled throughout the day.

The Windbags: 10:30 a.m. -- A Virginia-based acoustic group (bass, percussion, guitars and four great voices) who play a variety of music form the 1960s to now.

Pistol Sister: 12:30 p.m. - An alt-country, Americana band from Richmond. Their original music is inspired by the classic country sounds of the 1970s, but with a modern twist. They have played all over the region, and are currently working on their first EP.

Ban Caribe: 2:30 p.m. -- Kevin Davis & Ban Caribe is a blend of Afro-Cuban/Latin/Caribbean music laced with soulful rhythm and blues fused together by pulsating percussion beats. “Clave Soul” is Kevin Davis & Ban Caribe’s unique style that replaces the drum sets with timbales, congas, bongos, maracas, steel pan and claves with guitar chords and harmonic vocals. The group’s repertoire is spiritually inspired by traditional African rhythms and chants.
