Pizza Race

The Pizza Race and Relay is returning for the 2019 Hanover Tomato Festival at Pole Green Park. Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 12.

MECHANICSVILLE -- The popular and fun Pizza Race and Relay will kick off at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 12, at Pole Green Park at 8996 Pole Green Park Lane in Mechanicsville. Participants will be able to test their pizza eating skills with a team or as an individual and enter for a chance to win Papa John’s Pizza for a year.

The race is all about the fun (and the pizza).

The extremely short course, only 4 kilometers or 2.5 miles, offers multiple pizza stations where a slice of Papa John’s Pizza will be waiting for you.

First place finishers in the male and female divisions that complete the 4K course and consume a slice of pizza at each stop will win Papa John’s Pizza for a year.

For the relay, get five of your favorite people (or at least people you know that can eat pizza really fast) and sign up as a team. Each member must run or walk about ½-mile while carrying a pizza box and consume a slice of pizza at the assigned station. The first team to cross the finish line will win pizza for a year. And each winning team member will win two free large pizzas.

Runners are encouraged to come dressed in their “pizza-best” for a chance to win pizza for a year.

The entry fee is $20 per individual or $10 per team member and includes an event t-shirt, goodie bag and, of course, pizza. The registration deadline is Wednesday, July 10.
