Henrico County police are still investigating an accident in Glen Allen that left two children who were sledding injured when they were struck by an out-of-control vehicle.

The incident unfolded Saturday evening at about 5:38 p.m. A driver in a Nissan SUV traveling in the 4800 block of Twin Hickory Lake Drive lost control, and the vehicle overturned and rolled down an embankment in an apartment complex where several children were sledding.

The SUV struck two children, injuring them seriously. They were taken to VCU Medical Center for treatment.

Police said Sunday afternoon that they had no update on the children’s medical conditions or whether the driver of the vehicle would face any charges stemming from the crash.

The accident marks the second time children out sledding have been in harm’s way recently.

On Thursday, a 9-year-old girl sledding in Chester died after she slid into the road and was hit by a pickup truck.
