I-95 crash

Crash on I-95 south near Parham Road on Monday, Sept. 10, 2018.

A crash involving two tractor-trailers on Interstate 95 sent both drivers to the hospital early Monday.

Virginia State Police are investigating the crash that happened at 3:34 a.m. on I-95 south at the Parham Road exit. 

Police said a 2008 Freightliner tractor hauling cars was having trouble maintaining speed in the right lane of the interstate. A tractor hauling a Perdue trailer hit the rear of the car hauler.

The driver of the tractor hauling the Perdue trailer had to extracted from the vehicle and was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. The other driver was taken to the hospital with minor to serious injuries.

Police said VDOT assisted with diverting traffic off the highway during cleanup. Also, the Department of Agriculture was contacted to assist with the cleanup.

All lanes of I-95 south were closed until about 5:30 a.m.

Police said the crash is still under investigation and charges are pending.
