COVINGTON — Authorities say a Virginia high school student compiled an extensive hit list of peers, school employees and family members.
The Alleghany County Sheriff's Office said the list included the names of public school students from the counties of Alleghany and Rockbridge and the city of Covington. The Sheriff's Office said all of the students are past or current attendees of the Covington school for special needs where the suspect is currently enrolled.
The list also included school employees, an Alleghany sheriff's deputy and family members of the suspect. Authorities have not released the age or sex of the student, who has been placed in juvenile detention. Criminal charges were pending.
The Sheriff's Office said it received a tip Monday and added that law enforcement had increased its presence at the schools.
